Communities

I develop partnerships and programmes that support the short and long-term future of community sport.

Everyone should have the opportunity to take part in activity that is accessible, inclusive and supportive of all abilities. My work helps organisations create environments where people can enter, re‑enter and stay connected to movement in ways that suit their lives and cultures.

Healthier Communities

I support individuals and communities to strengthen their connection to movement and gain more control over their health.

This includes women and girls, people from lower socio economic groups, older adults, disabled people, people from particular ethnic backgrounds and those living with long term health conditions. My work is shaped around the needs, cultures and circumstances of these groups.

Community participation and empowerment influence the social conditions that shape health, including the environments in which people are born, grow, work, live and age. I deliver community based physical activity programmes in partnership with organisations such as the NHS, local authorities, non profit organisations and national governing bodies.

In Saudi Arabia, this includes working with national and regional bodies responsible for community sport, public health and wellbeing, such as the Sports for All Federation, the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Sport, regional municipalities and community based organisations. These partnerships help create environments that encourage movement, improve wellbeing and support healthier, more active communities.

Broad Access Points Across Pathways

Physical activity and sport need many access points, not narrow routes. Communities thrive when people can enter, re enter and progress through sport as their lives, cultures and environments evolve. Broad access points create larger, more diverse participation bases and help people stay connected to health, movement and sport over time.

My responsibility is to make the appeal of physical activity and sport as broad and inclusive as possible. No one should be excluded. When environments offer multiple ways to participate, communities become healthier, more resilient and more confident. This reduces long term health burden, supports wellbeing and creates stronger foundations for development across all levels of sport.

Community Sport as Part of Sport Ecosystems

Community environments influence how people enter sport, how they develop and how they progress. They shape early experiences, expectations, confidence and long term connection. When these environments are accessible, with clear rhythms, safe spaces and culturally aware practices, people experience sport in a way that feels supportive and welcoming.

Community sport is not separate from pathways or performance. It is the foundation of every sport ecosystem. The relationships and daily practices established in community settings carry forward into schools, universities, clubs, academies and performance environments. When these layers connect, people experience sport as one continuous system rather than isolated stages.

My work supports organisations to understand these environments, how they function and how they influence progression. This includes helping communities build capability, develop people and create conditions where participation feels natural, sustainable and meaningful.

Capability Building & Workforce Development

Strong community systems rely on capable people. Environments function well when individuals understand their roles, communicate clearly and operate with confidence. Capability building is central to this, helping coaches, volunteers and team members develop the skills, behaviours and decision making needed to support people across different stages of sport.

My work focuses on developing environment specific capability, including how people communicate, how they organise daily practices, how they respond to change and how they create conditions that feel safe, supportive and stable. This includes building shared understanding, improving delivery and strengthening the everyday routines that allow environments to hold people through participation, development and progression.

When capability grows, environments become more consistent, more connected and better able to support long term engagement across grassroots, pathways and performance settings.

Participation, Wellbeing & Healthy Communities

Participation is a wellbeing asset. When communities move more, they become healthier, more resilient and more connected. Environments that encourage regular exercise and movement, through accessible facilities, inclusive programmes, safe spaces and culturally aware delivery, help people build confidence, stability and long term connection to sport.

Healthy communities depend on environments they can trust, with safeguarding central and wellbeing embedded. When people can participate in ways that suit their lives, cultures and environments, movement becomes part of everyday rhythm rather than an occasional activity. This supports mental wellbeing, reduces long term health burden and creates stronger foundations for development across all levels of sport.

Community sport contributes directly to these outcomes by offering environments where people can enjoy movement, grow in confidence, develop capability and stay engaged throughout their lives.

Women & Girls: Participation,
Wellbeing & Pathways

Women and girls benefit significantly from environments that offer broad access points and inclusive pathways. When movement feels safe, culturally aware and welcoming, participation becomes part of everyday life rather than something people must seek out. This builds confidence, emotional stability and long-term connection to sport.

Early experiences in schools, universities and community settings shape how girls see themselves, how they manage challenge and how they progress. When environments offer clear rhythms, safeguarding and supportive delivery, girls develop the psychological and physical foundations needed to move confidently through participation, development and performance.

My work supports organisations to create conditions where women and girls can enter, re-enter and progress through sport in ways that suit their lives. This includes helping environments understand how participation influences wellbeing, how wellbeing influences progression and how systems allow girls to move naturally through different stages of sport and, if they choose, into competitive environments and competition.

Connecting Communities, Pathways & Performance

Community sport is the foundation of every sport ecosystem. Early experiences shape confidence, expectations and long term connection, influencing how people move through schools, universities, clubs, academies and performance environments.

When these layers link naturally, people experience sport as one connected system rather than separate stages. Progression feels structured, supportive and culturally grounded, allowing individuals to move confidently through participation, development and, if they choose, competitive performance.

My work helps organisations understand how these layers interact and how to build environments that hold people consistently. When grassroots, pathways and performance settings connect, communities grow stronger and sport becomes a lifelong part of people’s lives.

Why Work With Me

My community work draws on experience across elite sport, education, public health and performance environments. I focus on creating programmes that build and connect participation to pathways, improving health and wellbeing, confidence, capability and lifelong engagement.

This approach is shaped by performance systems thinking: understanding environments, behaviours and daily practices, and how they influence participation and progression. It means organisations benefit from expertise normally found in high performance settings, applied in ways that support communities, schools, clubs and local programmes.

Few people bring elite performance experience, environment design and community development together. That combination is what makes my work different.
